Hi everyone, hope you're all keeping well. My first recap of the new series of Merlin is up on Snark and Fury. I'll catch up on the second one this week and hopefully recap it before Saturday.

I probably won't post any more recap pimping posts on here so either bookmark Snark and Fury and check each week, or subscribe using one of those funky RSS feeds.

Cheers!

What's Robin Hood Without Robin Hood? *Spoilers*

There are some spoilers over here about season three of Robin Hood. I'm going to talk about them in the next paragraph so if, for some reason, you don't want Robin Hood season three spoiled stop reading. Take a look at my new not-quite-a-recap-of-Demons post on Snark and Fury instead.

Obviously this is one of my favourite shows to recap but is it going to be worth recapping if the main character doesn't bother to turn up? Actually, that would probably make it even more worthy of snark... The absence of the main character in season four will surely be the deathknell for the show. The 80s ITV show, Robin of Sherwood, managed to replace Robin but that led to Jason Connery. No one should have to endure another Jason Connery. If the rumours are correct and Richard Armitage leaves too, then not only have we lost the best Sean Bean impression from our screens but the show loses Guy of Gisburne. I also read a rumour a few months ago that Keith Allen was going to be leaving at the end of season three too. I've enjoyed Keith's pantomime performance as the Sheriff as he seemed to be the only actor that looked at the script and thought, "This is quite clearly crap. Sod it, I'm going to have a laugh with this and ham it up!"

So, we'll have a show called Robin Hood that won't feature Robin Hood, Guy of Gisburne, Maid Marian, or the Sheriff. They may as well rename it Generic Medieval Fantasy Adventure Show (and I believe that was the working title for Merlin until they decided to use the Merlin brand name *shudder*). At one point do the BBC decide to pretend that the first three seasons didn't happen and start again from scratch? If you remove the four main characters from the Robin Hood legend, you haven't really got much of a story, or at least not a Robin Hood story and that's kind of the point of a show titled Robin Hood.

Of course the other option is that the show just merely recasts everyone and give the viewers new actors in the iconic roles. This is always jarring for any show that's not Doctor Who but it could be a way of relaunching the show and jettisoning some of the baggage. The problem would be that the actors would still be inhabiting a series that has always been hamstrung by poor writing, costume and those Hungarian extras that don't react to anything.

Despite the article mentioning the appointment of a showrunner, I would be very surprised if Robin Hood was commissioned for a fourth season if it lost half its cast. A new start would probably be for the best, perhaps a couple of years hiatus whilst all the parts are recast and the filming relocated and the sets rebuilt? Obviously this would be an expensive option in these times of financial apocalypse. Plus, we may not even be watching TV in a couple of years, we'll probably be forming tribes and fighting each other over supplies of Sunny D and Extra Value beans in the burning ruins of Tesco.

Before the apocalypse occurs we will have season three and that should at least threaten to be interesting towards the end as we all wait for the farewell/death scenes of certain characters...

Yes after five years of happily shopping online I have become a victim of internet fraud. Some punk stole all of my personal details and transferred #150 Euros from my account. Fortunately I discovered the fraud almost as soon as it occurred and it was a relatively small amount considering they could have cleaned me out completely. Still, it's annoying as I now won't have a debit card until sometime next week. My current theory is that it was one of those criminal cartels that hang around call centres waiting to steal your details, as the information required to do what they did was of a personal nature that wouldn't be available on the front or back of my card. So Monday will now be a fun day of going to the bank and filling in a fraud form and generally moaning to the disinterested bank clerks.

Grrr.

Still, I've had trifle now so I'm feeling much better.

Paul Ince is gone. I know it's early and that we should really give him time to mold his own team and blah, blah, blah, but the guy was clearly out of his depth in the Premier League.

His first signing: Robbie Fowler - 33 years old, broken down and was struggling with a hip injury when he signed.

Ince also signed Keith Andrews, a 28 year old lower league player who seemed to have been signed because Ince was fond of him from his days of managing MK Dons. Unfortunately the dude's just not very good and is out of his depth at the Premier League level.

Ince did sign Paul Robinson at a bargain price considering his age and number of England caps. Unfortunately Robinson is also well known for several high profile mistakes that have cost teams games. So far Robinson has been solid for Rovers but hasn't had much luck playing behind a defence that concedes an average of 2 goals a game. You do not win football matches if you concede that many goals per game.

Ince has been tactically naive but this shouldn't come as a shock really. Ince has only been in management for two or three seasons, all at lower league level. Simply put, Ince has never learned how to manage a side that is expected to battle against world class players and managers with a team that is good but not great. At no point did Rovers show any of the attitude and determination displayed in previous seasons where results were ground out against superior teams.

The 3-0 loss to Wigan was the final straw and rightly so. Wigan are the kind of team that Rovers should expect to take points off whenever they play. They certainly shouldn't lose to a team that plays Emile Heskey up front and has Titus Bramble in defence.

I am prepared to take up the post so long as it doesn't interfere with my management of my Football Manager Live team. That said, I'll probably lose out to someone 'qualified' like Sam Allardyce or Graeme Souness.
